The official kick-off meeting of Sobremesa: Vagaries of the Palate took place in Epanomi, Thessaloniki from April 8 to 12, 2026, marking the operational launch of the project. Over five days, cultural practitioners and consortium partners, from Italy, Greece, Portugal, and Spain came together to share methodologies, objectives, research directions, and visit the regional partners of the project’s Greek context.
The meeting initiated the interdisciplinary and transnational dialogue around the role of food in shaping identity, migration, and belonging in contemporary Europe. Bringing together different artistic practices, research approaches, and experiences of community engagement, the gathering laid the foundations for the project’s work over te following year.
The time spent together also marked the beginning of a shared inquiry into food as a space of negotiation, social cohesion and difference, memory, and political belonging, establishing a common ground for future site-specific residencies, research, documentation, and exchange across the partner countries.
