Hangar (2015), developed by Xerem - Associacao Cultural (2009), is a project whose mission is to conceive, organize, develop, implement and disseminate cultural, artistic, social and pedagogical projects of a transdisciplinary and intercultural nature, both locally, nationally and internationally, collaborating with public and private institutions and involving artists and diverse communities. It emerged with the specific aim of inspiring and promoting artists who have little visibility in conventional exhibition spaces in Portugal, as well as inaugurating a space in Lisbon dedicated to creatives with an interest in the contexts of African and other diasporas. The association's priorities are research, social intervention through art, production, artistic creation, publications, training and cultural exchange. Hangar's program promotes exchanges between artists from Portugal and Europe, and artists from Latin America and Africa, with Lisbon as the focal point. Hangar's various activities propose an action plan designed to stimulate the study and activation of artistic practices that have yet to be crystallized, with an emphasis on current production, while allowing for the analysis and creation of new cultural meanings.
